Marco Gastel

I was rewatching an old interview and noticed Louis mentioning “Marco” at a very interesting moment. It could be the same Marco who was seen in multiple 1D pictures and who Harry tweeted the picture of, who is believed to be part of the boys’ management:

The interview probably doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know, but it certainly further strengthens the suspicion that this guy is actively involved in managing One Direction’s image (including Larry’s situation, probably).

To remind you: People have identified him as Marco Gastel. If you look at the Wikipedia page for the Up All Night Tour DVD, you’ll note that a Marco Gastel is credited as “management assistant”.

At 4:17 in this video of the Matt and Jo show from April this year, Louis and Liam are asked “How old is too old for you?” when it comes to dating someone.

Now, it’s quite important to note that in this interview, the boys are allowed to “buzz” a button when they get a question they’ve been asked before and don’t have to answer that question. However, Louis seems intent on answering this particular question anyway:

Louis: “We have been asked that before. I’ll buzz it, but I think we should still answer it because it’s a good question.”

The interviewers then ask when was the question given to them before, which leads to a somewhat funny/awkward exchange and a nice little display of Louis’ jealous teasing when it comes to Caroline:

Liam (hesitantly): “Around the time of Caro-”
Louis: “Of Harry’s little fling”

They then get back to the question at hand, and it is quite clear that Louis does not really like the idea of big age gaps. He talks about himself/men with older or younger girls, but the way he words his answer makes it, in my opinion, rather obvious that he thinks the same about older women with young boys (hence why he says “18 year olds” rather than “18 year old girls”). Maybe I’m reading to much in there, but I doubt it.

Here’s what he says:

“How old is too old? I have always been quite sure about this.. We’re young lads. [The idea of ‘you can date older women when you’re older’. But when you’re older you can’t really get away with dating 19-18 year-olds. Correct?”

By that point Liam had noticed something off-camera; he points and laughs and turns to Louis:

Liam: *mumbles something inaudible* (Can anyone hear what Liam says? Enlighten me!)
Then Louis almost exclaims to him: “Forget Marco for a second! Flippin’ hell”

What we could deduce from this:

Obviously we cannot know anything for sure. We also can’t be 100% certain that this is in fact the same Marco Gastel. But either way, it looks very much as if this Marco from the interview was making a face or saying something to stop Louis from voicing his obvious disapproval of big age gaps.

It looks very much like part of this Marco’s job might be to ‘babysit’ them during interviews and make sure they stick to the innocent subjects.
